Developing motivational interviewing techniques in work with children and young people
This course aims to introduce participants to theories of motivational interviewing to enable children and young people to engage in change.
For: Managers and Supervisors, Social Workers, Children & Family Support, Foster Care, Residential Workers, Youth Support Service Staff, Youth Offending Team, Children Centre Staff
It offers opportunity to apply theoretical perspectives to practice and allows participants to consider their own approaches to improving outcomes for children. This course adopts a blended approach to supporting children and young people in making changes to behaviour. Models include motivational interviewing; solutions focussed therapy, restorative practices and is linked to child and adolescent developmental stages. This course has been developed to support children and young people in thinking about the impact of their behaviours on themselves and others and is offers practical applications to staff in developing change talk, goal setting and supporting the development of independence and autonomy in children and young people.
